HAPPY Independence Day!
Today, November 3rd, is celebrated as independence day in Panama. We were already awake at 9 AM with the parade started, so after some quick morning phone calls back to the states, we headed out to check out the parade.
This is actually one of two Independence days for Panama. They celebrate both Independence from Colombia and independence from Spain. Today’s celebration is to celebrate independence from Colombia. Today is November 3rd. Columbus day (another holiday) is on November 5th.
Since Panamanians get both days off of work, many people take the 4th off as well and make it a long week vacation.
You can see in the map below both where our hotel is (Hotel Madrid) and where the bus station is in David. We happened to get close to the bus station simply by accident, but it will be really nice for us for either getting to Boquete or going wherever we go next.
